How to Stand Out in a Noisy Marketplace: The 7-11-4 Rule for Becoming Oversubscribed 🚀

Eighty percent of success is showing up, Woody Allen famously quipped. But in today’s digital world, showing up isn’t just about being there; it’s about being everywhere your audience is—consistently and compellingly. That’s the heart of the 7-11-4 Rule, a strategy that could transform your approach to customer engagement.

Let’s break it down: Imagine spending seven hours with someone. Chances are, you’d feel pretty connected, right? That’s the first part of our rule. Next, pepper those hours with eleven diverse touchpoints—emails, social posts, videos—all crafting a story around your brand. And don’t forget the magic number four: the different platforms that make your brand a familiar face in a crowd of strangers.

Sounds simple? It’s more than that; it’s a powerful blueprint for turning the casual browser into a loyal fan. Here’s why you can’t afford to overlook this strategy if growth is on your agenda. Let’s dive into the 7-11-4 Rule and unpack how it can make your brand not just seen, but sought after.

What is the 7-11-4 Rule? 🤔

Imagine engaging with someone for seven hours. You’d likely begin to think of them as someone you like, right? You would have a degree of knowledge of who they are. You’d begin to build a familiarity with them, and i’d bet you would even begin to build a degree of trust with them.

Now apply that to your brand, and you begin to see the magic of the 7 hours of engagement this rule advocates. The 7-11-4 Rule is all about turning strangers into fans who know, like, and trust your brand. Here’s how it works:

  • 7 Hours: Spend at least 7 hours engaging with your audience.
  • 11 Touch Points: Create 11 different interactions with your brand.
  • 4 Locations: Reach your audience across 4 separate platforms or channels.

Sounds simple, right? But it’s incredibly powerful.

Why You Need the 7-11-4 Rule to Grow Your Business 📈

Whether you’re selling products, services, or ideas, here’s the reality: regardless of what you sell, media and technology is as critical to you business as the people you employ.

To grow your brand, you need to be leveraging media and technology to reach new customers. The goal here is you want to become oversubscribed—having more people eager to work with you than you can handle. That’s what implementing the 7-11-4 Rule helps you achieve in business. It builds desire and trust by keeping your brand top-of-mind in a world full of distractions.

The Science Behind the Strategy 🧠

The human brain doesn’t distinguish much between digital and real-life interactions. That’s why you might feel a connection to someone you follow online or even feel grief when a favourite celebrity passes away. Digital interactions, from podcasts to tweets, can forge bonds just as strong as in-person meetings. This neurological quirk is what makes the 7-11-4 Rule so effective.

How to Apply the 7-11-4 Rule to Your Business 🛠️

Ready to get started? Here’s how you can use the 7-11-4 Rule to become oversubscribed:

Create 7 Hours of Content:

Make sure you have at least 7 hours’ worth of content available for your audience to engage with. This could be blog posts, videos, podcasts, or a combination of everything. The goal is to keep them interacting with your brand for at least 7 hours.

Plan for 11 Touch Points:
Design your customer journey to include 11 different touch points. This could be an email, a social media post, a video tutorial, or even a free downloadable resource. The more they interact, the more they trust you.

Be Present on 4 Platforms:

Don’t just stick to one platform. Spread your presence across at least 4 different channels. Think Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and your website. The more places people can find you, the better.

The Power of Celebrity Endorsements ✨

Ever wondered why celebrity endorsements are so effective? It’s because of the 7-hour rule. When a celebrity, who you’ve likely spent at least 7 hours watching, recommends a product, it feels like advice from a trusted friend. You can harness this power too—by making sure your audience spends enough time with your brand.
